Human Rights Poster Assignment. Article 25, Universal Declaration of Human Rights
Article 25: Right to an adequate standard of living
- Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.
- Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance. All children, whether born in or out of wedlock, shall enjoy the same social protection.
Assorted among the great comforts of capitalist society are the broken promises of upward mobility and the economic tribulations of the many. Those in the bottom struggle to get by and are denied affordable healthcare, housing, and other basic services that promote wellbeing. With my poster, I use metaphor to illustrate this disparity. Below, the silhouetted birds are distorted into monotony. Above, the birds remain relaxed, willfully ignorant of their own privileges and immunities.
